What is Bisaya?

Bisaya (a word that describes both my native language and our people) is a monthly newsletter by Expedito Segovia.

It’s a space where I will explore classic Filipino dishes—with a vegetarian twist—and have musings on Asian queerness, local food and more.

Once a month on Sundays is a recipe post, and occasionally on Fridays is everything else (essays, poems, food reviews, interviews, chismis, etc.)

Why is Bisaya?

The premise behind Bisaya, and why I named it what I named it, is an attempt at reconnecting and rediscovering my heritage through food. This newsletter isn’t just a place for—hopefully and fingers crossed— great Filipino vegetarian recipes but also how and what that food means to me as queer Filipino immigrant in the USA.

Who Reads Bisaya?

Foodies and non-foodies alike, folks curious about Filipino food and culture, my friends, my family, and lest we forget the gworls.
